We are looking for people to join our Board of Trustees - who meet up to 8 times a year to make decisions on how to best run the charity.
Common Thread Vision (CTV) is seeking interested and enthusiastic people with a variety of skills/experience (including life experience) to be part of the team that oversees our small but dynamic organisation. The Board is made up of unpaid volunteers who are elected yearly at an AGM.
Role Purpose To monitor and support the development of Common Thread Vision in keeping with its charitable objectives and act in the interest of the organisation. Responsibilities and Duties • To support the aims and objectives of the organisation through good governance • To represent the views of service users and make decisions to respond to their needs • To support the development of policies and procedures as and when required • To ensure that policies and procedures are being complied with at all times • To ensure all financial information is in line with the legislative requirement • To attend all meetings of the full Trust Board, which are held at least 8 times each year (meetings are held once every 6 weeks) and record minutes. • To monitor the progress of projects being delivered by Common Thread Vision • To provide support to the Chairperson through regular meetings.
Person Specification Strong leadership skills, Experience of strategic planning.
Skills Ability to communicate effectively and to a high standard both orally and in writing. Able to think objectively and make sound, independent judgements.
Personal Qualities A commitment to the organisation and alignment with its purpose and vision, An understanding of equity, safeguarding, and inclusion, Willingness and ability to devote the necessary time and effort to the work of the organisation, Good, independent judgement, Ability to think creatively, Ability to work effectively as a member of a team, A positive & proactive approach to the role. Knowledge of finance / accountancy / spreadsheets.
In addition to the above, the following areas have been identified as desirable areas of expertise we are particularly interested in recruiting to our Trust Board: Experience of fundraising, Applying for funding, Experience in charity law, Knowledge of human resources, Experience of working with minority ethnic groups, Experience of community development, Knowledge of the public sector.
Common Thread Vision (CTV) exists to promote equal opportunities for the elderly community members in accessing various health and wellbeing services. The purpose of CTV is to improve the health and well-being of the elderly members who live in the Glasgow area. The objectives are to enhance the quality of service user’s life by reducing loneliness and isolation, maintaining and improving their independence. CTV also promotes healthy lifestyle choices and raising awareness of the needs of the elderly members.
Common Thread Vision serves the needs of the members by combining the provision of resources with community facilities where they can meet with other elderly people. This allows them to have lunch together, get involved in various activities which enables the members to participate in the social, economic, and cultural life of the area.
As a Board member/Trustee you will: • Have an interest in Pollokshields and in working with people who are socially isolated • Help make decisions relating to HR, funding, promoting the charity and more • Use your networks and contacts to further the work of CTV
