Strathclyde Refuweegee Rep

This opportunity is ongoing, with no end date.

Who are Refuweegee:

Refuweegee is a community-led charity that gives people a way to welcome and embrace those newest to arrive. We strive to ensure that people who have been forced to flee their homes arrive in Scotland to a warm welcome and some of the things that will help them to feel more at home here.

Role summary:

As a Refuweegee Rep, you will help to raise awareness and support for Refuweegee’s mission on the University of Strathclyde campus closely working with other students, societies, and staff members. This flexible role allows you to commit as much or as little time as you can, with activities that range from simply sharing information about Refuweegee to actively engaging the student body in events and fundraisers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Share information about Refuweegee’s work on campus.
  • Organise small events or fundraisers (e.g., bake sales, donation drives) to gather support and raise funds for Refuweegee.
  • Inspire fellow students and student groups such as societies and sports clubs to get involved in supporting Refuweegee.
  • Act as a point of contact on campus for students interested in learning more about Refuweegee’s work or becoming involved themselves.

This is not an exhaustive or definite list of activities that you will be involved with in the role – as a new role there is great flexibility for your own ideas and creativity too!

 Benefits of the Role:

  • Gain experience in community outreach, event planning, and advocacy.
  • Develop your communication, organisational, and other skills.
  • Build a network of like-minded individuals passionate about social impact.
  • Log your hours and skills on your profile and get access to Rewards and Recognition from Strath Union.
  • Flexibility to adapt the role around your studies and availability.
  • Access to a supportive volunteer community at Refuweegee and Strath Union.

Time Commitment:

This role is designed to be as flexible as your schedule allows.

No specific experience required, but the role is ideal for students who are:

  • Passionate about community building, inclusivity, and supporting newcomers.
  • Interested in gaining experience in non-profit work, social justice, or event planning.
  • Motivated and enthusiastic about promoting positive change.
