We support young people to thrive and make the most of their lives as they grow up.

Board Member

This opportunity is ongoing, with no end date. Closing date for applications is 14 Aug.

Do you want to impact the lives of young people in Scotland positively? If so, we're looking for enthusiastic people from various backgrounds with varying skills and experiences to join our Board.

Our Board members help us support young people to thrive and make the most of their lives as they grow up. They are responsible for governing how we operate, supporting us in shaping our strategic vision and helping us to grow our impact

We’re looking for two new Board members to build upon the strong skills of our current Board. Key skills and experience we’re looking for include:

  • Experience in the commercial/business sector
  • Currently a Modern Apprentice or recently entered the job market after secondary school
  • Knowledge of the challenges and/or lived experience in relation to eradicating child poverty

Joining us is a great way to support young people in Scotland and a chance to develop personally and professionally. You'll join an inclusive, friendly and passionate group who are fully committed to our cause.

Our staff team and Board must have perspectives that represent the young people we serve. Therefore, we are more interested in your viewpoints and skills than your years of experience. We particularly welcome applications from those who are historically under-represented due to age, socio-economic background, disability, ethnicity, faith or belief, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, education, or caring responsibilities. You can read more about our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and our Anti-Racism work here.

  • You’ll review board papers and other materials before meetings.

What you'll be doing:

  • Supporting us in creating a clear and ambitious vision
  • Setting our strategic direction and ensuring we are bold in our ambitions
  • Providing advice, guidance and support to our CEO and executive team
  • Making strategic connections via your wider networks
  • Ensuring our financial stability, sustainability and growth
  • Ensuring we comply with our statutory obligations
  • Approving our operating policies and financial controls
  • Reviewing and updating our Memorandum and Articles of Association
  • Approving appointments to our Board and appointing our Company Secretary

Great Board members have a mix of these skills and experiences:

  • A commitment to our vision, mission and values
  • Able to relate to and support the diverse experiences of young people from various backgrounds and communities
  • Able to think creatively and successfully challenge others constructively and respectfully
  • Understand the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of being a Board member
  • Thrives at working with others to find the best possible solutions
  • An open approach and commitment to the core principles of public service
