Glasgow Libraries Home Library Service is more than a book delivery service, it is a lifeline. Friendly and trusted volunteers represent a welcome contact with the outside world and can actively help combat isolation and loneliness. Volunteers bring the joy of reading and helpful information on other important aspects of Glasgow Life services to the homes of those unable to visit a library.
What is the Home Library Service?
Our Home Library Service volunteers deliver books to the home of those who can't visit the library. Volunteers will bring you the joy of reading and a link to the outside world to help beat loneliness.
Who is it for?
The Home Library Service is for customers who cannot visit their local library, for example people with:
Long term illness Short term illness Disability – physical and / or mental Age-related issues affecting access Mobility challenges – short-term or enduring Ongoing medical care at home Caring responsibilities
What is the time commitment for volunteers?
Volunteers and customers agree how often and at what time the visits will take place.
This will depend on the availability of the volunteers. This is usually about one session every two weeks.

Applicants will be invited to attend an informal interview. Please note a Basic Disclosure will be required for this role, Glasgow Life will process and pay for this. Volunteer training and induction for the Home Library Service will be provided, more details will be shared at interview.
