Sports Awards – Kirstin Harkness
President of Strath cheerleading, Kirstin Harkness is an inspiration to all of the sporting community within Strathclyde. Whilst being in her fourth year of her law degree, Kirstin has put in lots of effort into the promotion and smooth running of cheer. To list some of her achievements, she has created three new performance teams and expanded numbers within teams, making the sport much more accessible for students. Furthermore, she fully supports and promotes cheerleading to be integrated more into the sporting community through events such as a their first ever successful showcase which she helped establish.
We believe Kirstin is very deserving of the sports award as on top of her fight for equality and inclusion for cheer, she has a fantastic outlook and lovely approach to other people. Her nominator agrees:
‘She will take time out of her stressful day to talk and speak to all members including freshers to help them and make sure they are settled well into university life. Over the years Kirsty has made a big difference to a lot of people around campus, including myself. Proud to call her a friend and she inspires me every day’
