Preparations are under way for the 2025 Spring Elections. We've updated and adjusted the roles on offer to reflect the needs of students. There are still plenty of opportunities to make change on campus, in Scotland and across the UK.
Nominations open on Monday 20th January so make sure to have a look at the roles on offer and the changes made. We’ve answered some questions about the changes in this article. If you have additional questions please reach out to the Democracy team via email.

We've moved from 6 to 5 Executive Officers for 2025/2026 which allowed us to increase the salaries of the five posts to £26,642.
The salary increase better reflects the responsibilities and expectations of the posts and allows Strath Union to compete with entry level graduate jobs. The mean starting salaries for Scottish graduates is £23,500.*

There is also a sector trend from other institutions to have a smaller number of sabbatical officers, with additional staff support in place.
Examples in Glasgow include Glasgow Uni SRC and GCU Students' Association
Student mental health and wellbeing will remain a priority for all five officer roles, and welfare touches all of their remits. All officers will be supported to work together on welfare campaigns, as they have done in previous years.
In 2024-2025, we have paid student staff roles to specifically support student welfare projects, as this remains a priority for Strath Union. They've helped to launch the new StrathMates programme and update our Strath Pantry offering.
The Democracy team carried out an initial role review throughout semester 1, carrying out focus groups with current executive and non-executive officers and opening out the opportunity to all students to contribute, via our all student email. Research into best practice at other institutions was also carried out.
The results were discussed at our Trustee Board meeting in December and the decision was made to proceed with five sabbatical officer roles for the year 2025-2026. A more detailed democracy review will take place throughout this year, with many opportunities for students to feed into this.
