We'd like to welcome your newly elected Student Executive for 2021/2022! Following your votes in the March Elections, the previous Student Executive handed over to your new officers who will be working hard for Strathclyde students over the next year.
You may know Benn Rapson from his previous role as VP Welfare over the last academic year.
“Thank you to everyone who voted and took part in the election. After a sometimes challenging but extremely rewarding year as your VP Welfare, I’m super excited to be given the privilege of being elected your next Strath Union President. There’s a lot of work to do over the next year, as we finally get to open our new Union and look to return to campus, but I’m super keen to get stuck in. I’m looking forward to getting started with the new dream team and working hard to make change happen at Strathclyde!”
We have a familar face with Ru Wallace, who has been elected for a second term after a positive year supporting students and societies during lockdown.
"It's been a tough year for our on and off-campus communities, and I'm really excited to get stuck into providing support and representation as we hopefully move back to in-person activity."
Your new VP Welfare, Lewis McDermott, is on hand to help support students and make your Strathclyde as safe as possible.
"Hi, I'm Lewis McDermott and I can't wait to be starting as your VP Welfare for this year! After a long and hard year for everyone, I'm so excited to work with y'all to make sure Strathclyde is as safe and supportive of its students as possible in the year ahead. If you need anything feel free to get in touch! Big love xoxox"
A recent Social Policy, Politics and IR student, Nesha Malone joins this year's Student Exec as VP Inclusion.
"Hey I'm Nesha, I'm a recent Social Policy, Politics and IR graduate and the new VP Inclusion. I'm not sure yet what direction my role will take me in this year, but I just hope I can make worthwhile change for the people who need it."
Recently finishing as an Undergraduate and Postgraduate, Savvina Kritharidou has a wealth of experience as a student at Strathclyde and is ready to help students as VP Education.
"Hi everyone! I'm Savvina and I'm from Greece. I recently finished my undergrad and postgrad from Strathclyde and I'm your new VP Education! I'm looking forward to taking on different projects, working with reps and listening to student feedback!"
Your new VP Sport, Kirsty Bannatyne, has been involved in Sport throughout her time at Strathclyde Uni and is excited to get started in this new role,
“Hi! I’m Kirsty your new VP Sport. Having grown up in Glasgow, I knew that Strathclyde was the place I wanted to spend my time studying, and I have recently graduated with a BA Hons in Marketing.
Sport has played such as big part in my university experience. Joining the tennis club in my second year, I was eager to get more involved at every opportunity. This past year I sat on the Tennis committee as the Social Secretary and the on the Sports Union Executive Committee as the Sponsorship Officer, as well as getting quite involved in Scottish Student Sport, which sparked my interest in running for VP Sport. As a recreational Strathlete, I’m super excited to throw myself into this role and try to get more students involved in sport to give them the best student experience as possible as we transition back to campus!”
We wish the new Student Executive all the best with their new positions and you can keep up to date with their campaigns and projects through our website and their social media channels; we'll also keep you in the loop with your All Student Email!
As well as your Student Exec, each year students are elected to represent different groups. These include liberation groups, faculties and under-represented students. They are here to campaign on your behalf and make change. Find out who your Non-Executive Officers for 2021/22 are!
