Strathclyde Student Union will now offer its staff a paid-for taxi home outwith public transport service hours.

The new scheme will guarantee that staff get home safely when public transport is no longer available after their shift.

Working alongside the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) and Unite, Strathclyde Students’ Union is now the first hospitality employer in Glasgow to meet all of the conditions for their Hospitality Charter.

Providing a voice to employees within hospitality, as well as a challenge to hotels, restaurants and bars across Scotland, the charter ensures that employers meet requirements like: the real living wage; a minimum hour contract; trade union access; and equal pay for young workers. Strathclyde Union President, Matt Crilly, said: "I'm proud we are the first institution in Glasgow to adhere to the Fair Hospitality Charter, showing our commitment to staff and student welfare.

“With many Strathclyde students working in the hospitality industry, I would now encourage other employers in the city to follow our lead and meet the conditions of the charter."

This latest policy means that Strathclyde will be the first student union in Scotland to fully adhere to our Fair Hospitality Charter.
