The Neurodiverse Society started up in August and aims to create a support network for Neurodiverse students and spread awareness throughout the wider student body about different neurodiversities.
Everyone is welcome to join our society. We don't require any student who wants to get involved to have a diagnosis as this can be incredibly difficult to get, and we also encourage students who aren't neurodiverse to join in if they would like to learn more about what it means to be neurodiverse.
We host a variety of events such as weekly group study sessions, games nights and quizzes, so there is something for everyone to enjoy. The society is made up of a lovely group of students who are supportive of each other, and a committee that is passionate about inclusivity and making a difference.
For the committee, the opportunity to help other students and watch as our community grows is the most rewarding part of being in the Neurodiverse society. As well, having the opportunity to meet new people and share experiences is invaluable to all members.
We are looking forward to continuing to grow our society and putting on more events aimed at raising awareness, such as through Neurodiversity Celebration Week!
Neurodiversity Celebration Week is taking place from the 13th to the 19th of March and aims to promote acceptance of Neurodiverse individuals. It is celebrated worldwide and encourages schools, universities, and workplaces to encourage equality and inclusivity.
We have lots going on throughout the week including a charity bake sale, an activity session with Strath Active, and a quiz to end the week. We are also planning to launch our coffee and chat series where students can come and share their experiences about specific topics related to Neurodiversity. The committee has been working very hard in preparation for Neurodiversity Celebration Week, so make sure to keep an eye out on our Instagram for announcements on what is to come!
