Read Penny's top tips to relax after exam season is over!
Exam season is probably the most stressful weeks of Uni. Which is why the moment exams are done, it’s time to relax and recharge! So, let’s have a look at a few things we can do to get our energy and happiness back once the exam/ submission period comes to an end!
The day after your final exam or final submission, you owe it to yourself to do absolutely nothing! Sleep in, stay in your pjs, don’t get out of bed! Be as lazy as you want, cause frankly you’re probably more exhausted than you even realise. At least mentally. Besides, you deserve it.
What a better way to celebrate the end of all the extremely stressful weeks than to stay in your bed and binge watch all the tv series and movies you’ve been dying to see. Grab your favourite snacks and your laptop and enjoy a couple days in bed of pure relaxation and a great array of shows!
Binge watching your favourite shows is a great way to relax after exams, but so is reading books. If you’re a bookworm like me, then there’s probably a couple of books you’d like to read now that the stress is gone. So go dive in whatever world your book leads you and enjoy!
Go shopping! Whether it’s at a store or online, once exams are done, reward yourself for all the hard work you’ve done! Buy something you’ve been wanting to buy for a while and were maybe considering, whether due to its price or simple doubts. You probably gave your 100% in your exams/ submissions. Reward yourself for it!
A good way to release all the stress that built up during exams is with a good exercise session. Go for a run, a cycle or to the gym. Use your earphones/ headphones and indulge in a good podcast or some good music while you’re at it. That way you get to release built up pressure and relax your brain. It’s a win-win situation!
Now that the restrictions are easing, a great thing to do after exams is to grab your friends and go on a wee tour of Scotland. Have day trips to places like Edinburgh, St Andrews, and Helensburgh, for shorter distances, or go further North, like Loch Lomond and Loch Ness. If you can, stay more than a day and explore more, or if you have a car, have a road trip. Scotland has a lot of hidden gems you must see.
Finally, once exams are over, you have more time to see your friends. Even if you have group study sessions, seeing your friends and studying with them under stressful circumstances is different than having fun with them. So, meet up for walks and coffee and random chats, because you are now stress free. I am sure there are many more ways to relax after the exams are over, but these are the ones I have tried in the past and enjoyed. So, put your lazy hats on and go enjoy a stress-free couple of days. You definitely deserve it!
