Volunteering for: Welcome Team, Welcome Team Leader
Initially I got an email just before first Semester started in 2018 saying that the Welcome Team needed help packing goodie bags to give out at Fresher's Week (and offering pizza for those who helped). I came for the free pizza and stayed because I had such a good time working with everyone. From there I've always jumped at any opportunities to volunteer at the Union.
It was hard work! Fresher's week is so hectic and busy and there's always something going on. It's so much fun being part of a small team of people helping set things up, assisting freshers moving into halls, and running the information stalls. We got so close as a team even though we were all strangers a few days earlier.
I enjoyed it so much I did it again the next year, this time as one of the Team Leaders, meaning I was part of training the new team and working hard along with the the rest of the team, Union staff and exec to make sure all the new freshers felt as welcome as possible!
I'll definitely be back next year!
