This is Strath Union’s Campaign page for LGBTQ+ students at Strathclyde.

What is LGBTQ+ ?

LGBTQ+ stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender/Transsexual, Queer or Questioning, plus. The "plus" is inclusive of other groups, such as asexual, intersex, genderfluid, non-binary and many more.

It is not that we're new. It's that you've naturalized our disappearance and now we're in these public spaces that we weren't allowed to be in for decades. We're actually showing you what love looks like in public.

Alok Vaid-Menon (they/them) is a South Asian gender non-conforming and transfeminine person. Born in 1991 in Texas, US.

History isn't something you look back at and say it was inevitable. It happens because people make decisions that are sometimes very impulsive and of the moment, but those moments are cumulative realities.

Marsha P. Johnson was a transgender activist who participated in the Stonewall Uprising and fought for equal rights. Born in New Jersey, US. 1945 - 1992.

Gender Affirmation Fund

The Strath Union Gender Affirmation Fund, is an Alumni Fund supported initiative which will gives trans and non-binary Strathclyde students mini-grants of to up £50 each to buy gender affirming items, and an additional £50 for travel costs to appointments. Each student will thus be able to apply for up to £100.

By trans and non-binary, we mean people whose gender identity is different to the gender they were assigned at birth, including but not limited to trans women, trans men, people who do not identify with any binary gender, genderqueer, genderfluid and agender people.
