The closing date for receipt of applications is Wednesday 5th September 2018 at 12noon. Interviews will be on Thursday 6th and Friday 7th September 2018 at The Union, 90 John Street, Glasgow or remotely via Skype.

Roles are expected to commence week beginning Monday 17th of September 2018.

Role Description

The duties will adapt and change to suit the needs of the Union throughout the term of employment and you will work with staff across the organisation as well as sabbatical officers and volunteers. Each student staff member will carry out general responsibilities along with a specific remit as detailed below.

General duties and responsibilities:

  • Answering general enquiries and guiding students to services within the Union and University 
  • Ensuring that a high level of customer care is provided and general administrative duties are carried out 
  • Ensuring a safe and tidy environment is maintained within the building 
  • Event planning and management through the year to support sabbatical objectives

  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Confident, enthusiastic and naturally helpful
  • Skilled at evaluating options and generating solutions
  • A reliable and committed team member
  • A people person with experience in a customer focussed environment

Roles Available

Data Analysis

  • Carry out data analysis and insight
  • Support the creation of Student Engagement impact reports
  • Support Exec officers with meeting preparation
  • Undertake research to support Union campaigns
  • Carry out student consultations and collate feedback

Diversity and Liberation

  • Carry out research & reports to support Diversity and Liberation campaigns, liberation history months and international student projects
  • Supports events including liberation history months, awareness training
  • Collate meeting minutes, update website content

Policy and Campaigns

  • Participate in planning, research and delivery of Strath Union campaigns
  • Support event delivery including Ask the Principal and Student Parliament
  • Support the creation and implementation of Union policy

Presidential Campaigns

  • Support of Strath Union President with admin and tasks generated by the role
  • Undertake research to support Presidential campaigns
  • Support Strath Union President with meeting preparation

Representation

  • Support Class Rep admin including collating Student-Staff Liaison Committee meeting minutes
  • Engage in planning and delivery of rep events including Congress and Teaching Excellence Awards
  • Support rep skill development activities

Sustainability

  • Recording sustainability activities for Green Impact Submission
  • Support of environmental projects, including potential eBike rental scheme
  • Organising Green Team meetings
  • Support of VPVD and sustainability campaigns

Volunteering

  • Support union-led volunteering projects
  • Deal with enquiries from students and community organisations
  • Content admin for Opportunities social media pages
  • Support the delivery of events including Volunteer Week and Volunteer Awards

Welcome Desk – Digital Media (x2 roles)

  • Cover welcome desk during daytime
  • Deal with general enquiries and provide information on Union services including Advice Hub
  • Update Student Engagement social media channels and webpages
  • Generate digital content with Exec officers and staff

Welcome Desk – Clubs, Societies and Events

  • Cover welcome desk during evenings
  • Deal with general enquiries and provide information on Union services including Advice Hub
  • Book and set up rooms for clubs and societies
  • Administrate club and society webpages
  • Support event setup and delivery
