An exciting opportunity has arisen for four enthusiastic Project Assistants to work with the Collaboration Services team(part of IT Services) on the Mobile App Development Enhancement and Upgrade Project. This project will strengthen the University’s Mobile development service by upgrading the StrathApp full stack and enhancing integrations with existing systems and tools. Aligning with the University’s Digital Strategy, StrathApp will be a digital exemplar of innovative, student co- created development. The project aims to revolutionise ‘just in time’ communications and provide enhanced capabilities for Campus, Study, Library and Help/Support services.

The University of Strathclyde is a leading international technological university, with a worldwide student population, and it is committed to providing a first-class experience to its students. Our students expect to be able to use their own devices, and to have a consistent user experience and seamless user journey. It is now accepted that most students will have a smart phone when they join the University, making the continued provision of a comprehensive and accessible app development service essential to ensuring students can make the most of their time at Strathclyde.

Our development model, with student placements in the team, utilises direct collaboration and co-creation with our student users. It is innovative and inspiring for staff, academics, and students alike, ensuring delivery of a service that is genuinely ‘For Students, By Students’. We need you to make our project a success and ensure we deliver services that reflect our Student Voice. As such all students from all backgrounds have a role to play, so while this position would suit a student with an IT career in mind or an aptitude for data analytics or management science – we are also interested to hear from students with marketing and communications experience and innovative ideas about how technology and App developments can help enhance our student experience here at Strathclyde.

Main Activities and Responsibilities below are indicative and there is a degree of flexibility to allow you to bring your own student voice and experience to the role/placement.

Credit bearing placements can also be arranged to align with this opportunity with agreement of your department/project supervisors. The posts are offered on a part-time basis (20 hours per week). Hours are likely to be worked on a flexible basis, usually with a combination of home and campus working, in line with the University’s Agile Working Policy. Part-time hours are offered for those on international visas and/or engaged in Academic project write ups. Candidates must be UK resident and have a UK bank account and NI number.

In return, you will receive ‘on-the-job’ training, a generous holiday package and be eligible to subscribe to a variety of schemes associated with being an employee of the University including: a world-class Sport Centre; family friendly policies; and various
additional incentives including a Cycle Scheme. The University also has on-site childcare and parking for which you can apply.

For further details and to apply please send a covering letter and your CV to strathapp@strath.ac.uk.
