Afrobeat Dance Class - Black History Month special (free event)

What's occurring?

Join us for a virtual Afrobeat dance class in celebration of Black History Month, with choreographer Joy Maria Onotu. All you need is a device with a working speaker, a bit of space and some comfortable clothes that you can move freely in. This class is suitable for all levels (including complete beginners)!

Afrobeat is a music genre that blends West African musical styles with jazz, soul, funk and, in more contemporary tracks, electronic music. The dance class will feature fun, active footwork and the signature high energy rhythyms of the genre!

Joy Maria Onotu is a professional dancer, performer and choreographer working with African, Dancehall and Afro-Latin dance styles. Born in Spain and raised in a Nigerian and Congolese family, Joy Maria has been dancing since the age of 8 and has been heavily influenced by Congolese, Commercial and Reggaeton dance styles. Since moving to Glasgow in 2007, Joy Maria has performed widely across the UK.

This is a free event - please make sure to register by booking one of the tickets above.
The class will take place via Zoom. We will send the meeting details out 30 minutes prior to the event start time. Please note, last entry to the call will be at 18.40 (no late arrivals permitted).

See you there! :)
