Students can stand to represent their peers in our elections. We have different roles to cover different areas of student life and different communities within our student body. Which role would suit you best?
Full-time paid positions
The President is a passionate leader who drives policy-making, campaigning, representation and acts as one of the public spokespeople for the organisation. The President is responsible for ensuring good governance within the Union and also acts as chair of the Trustee Board.
Role Description
The VP Community is responsible for campaigning to widen development projects and opportunities for students. They will campaign to widen participation in extra-curricular activities and support the development of the clubs and societies. They lead on sustainability and environmental issues within the Union and University and foster collaboration between Strathclyde students, staff and local communities.
The VP Education represents the academic interests of the student body to the University. They are responsible for ensuring that students have the best learning experience whilst studying at Strathclyde by implementing and developing education policies, as well as supporting the student rep system.
The VP Inclusion champions equality, diversity and inclusion. They work with liberation groups, faith and culture societies, and marginalised students to ensure that their views are represented by lobbying the University and external agencies, developing campaigns and mobilising the wider student body to effect change.
The VP Sport leads the Sports Union including chairing committees and representing the members to the University and external audiences. They are responsible for campaigning to widen participation in sport and physical activity and supporting the development of the sports clubs.
The VP Welfare is responsible for campaigning on issues that affects student welfare and wellbeing including housing, mental health and financial hardship. They will represent student interests within the University and local community and ensure the Union supports welfare groups.
Voluntary positions receiving an honorarium payment normally held for 12 months.
Elected in the Autumn Elections
There is one Postgraduate Research Faculty Rep for each Faculty and these represent students’ views and interests at faculty-wide meetings and committees. They act as a link between University staff, the Doctoral Research Group and the Union.
There is one Postgraduate Taught Faculty Rep for each Faculty and these represent students’ views and interests at faculty-wide meetings and committees. They support the programme reps in their faculty and act as a link between programme reps, University staff and the Union.
Elected in the Spring Elections
There is one Undergraduate Faculty Rep for each Faculty and these represent students’ views and interests at faculty-wide meetings and committees. They support the programme reps in their faculty and act as a link between programme reps, University staff and the Union.
The BAME Rep promotes inclusivity on campus and is a spokesperson for all students of African, Arab, Caribbean, Asian, Latin American and First Nation decent.
The Democracy Convenor has an important role in ensuring students have a say in how their Union is run and that elected representatives are held to account.
The Disabled Students’ Rep promotes inclusivity on campus and is a spokesperson for all students that self-define as disabled students.
Representing students staying both in Strathclyde University halls, and private halls, the Halls Rep is a spokesperson for students living in student accommodation.
The Interfaith Rep promotes inclusion on campus and is a spokesperson for students of all faiths and none.
Representing international students from both EU and overseas, the International Students’ Rep promotes inclusivity, is a spokesperson for international students, sits on Strath Union's Welfare Committee and Inclusion Committee
The LGBT+ Rep promotes inclusivity on campus, is a spokesperson for all students that define as LGBT+.
The Mature Students’ Representative promotes inclusivity on campus, is a spokesperson for all students that are 21 years old or over at the start of their first degree.
The Part Time Students’ Rep promotes inclusivity on campus and is a spokesperson for all students enrolled on a part time course at Strathclyde.
The Women’s Rep promotes inclusivity on campus, is a spokesperson for all women students and sits on Strathclyde Students’ Union Equality Diversity Committee.
Voluntary positions recieving cost of expenses for conference, including training, travel and accommodation.
