Sports Exec Elections 2022-23

The Sports Executive Committee - warmly known as the 'Sports Exec' - is made up of nine student volunteers and one full-time paid Sabbatical Officer, the Sports President. This group, along with invited advisors such as the Head of Sport, discuss and make key decisions which affect all areas of the sport programme, including participation, club sport and performance. Getting involved with the Sports Exec is an excellent opportunity for you to learn more about the Sports Union and see first hand what goes into running one of the largest and most diverse student sport programmes in Scotland.

Sports Exec Vice President

Leading on deputising for the Sports President in their absence and driving forward the Sports Union inclusion agenda.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Deputise for the Sports President in their absence. Drive forward the Sports Union inclusion agenda by undertaking advocacy and representation work, such as formulating policies and procedures for consideration of the General Committee and Annual General Meeting.
  2. Liaise with key Sports Union and University representatives with a view to breaking down barriers for all students looking to engage with sport at the University.
  3. Chair or Vice Chair the Sports Union Discipline Committee, overseeing collation of case notes, availability of panel members and corresponding with participants
  4. Support Sports Union staff and other volunteers on the Sports Executive with the general planning, organisation and delivery of key events as and when called on.
  5. Attend all Sports Executive Committee meetings throughout the academic year, deputising for the Sports President where required.

Awards Officer - Sports Exec

Leading on the annual awards process for the Sports Awards Ball.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Chair the Sports Union Awards Committee, by recruiting panel members, coordinating and conducting all meetings, and ensuring committee functions are carried out in accordance with governance By-laws.
  2. Act as the principle point of contact for all enquiries relating to Sports Union awards, hall of fame and colours recognition frameworks.
  3. Support the publication of marketing materials for the Sports Awards Ball, proactively sourcing content for editing purposes.
  4. Support Sports Union staff and other volunteers on the Sports Executive with the general planning, organisation and delivery of key events as and when called on.
  5. Attend and contribute to Sports Executive committee and sub-committee meetings throughout the academic year.

Governance Officer - Sports Exec

Leading on the administration of the Club Score initiative.

Main Responsibilities 

  1. Oversee the administration of club development enhancing the ‘Club Score; initiative, promoting the values of good club development and ensuring data submitted is accurate to calculate ‘club health scores’.
  2. Act as a liaison between sports clubs, the Executive Committee, and Sports Union staff regarding club development and sport programme matters.
  3. Work with sports clubs to ensure a smooth handover of committee groups by ensuring relevant governance documentation is submitted and up to date.
  4. Support Sports Union staff and other volunteers on the Sports Executive with the general planning, organisation and delivery of key events as and when called on.
  5. Attend and contribute to Sports Executive committee and sub-committee meetings throughout the academic year.

Events Officer - Sports Exec

Leading on the development and delivery of a calendar of events based upon the interests of the sports club membership.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Chair the Events Committee, providing leadership to the planning, organisation, and delivery of key Sports Union events, such as Captains Dinner.
  2. Contribute to the Sports Union calendar of events and campaigns by supporting the interests of the sports club membership, working with appropriate members of the Sports Executive Committee to fulfil these, and aligning with the Events Budget ensuring a breakeven/profit within the financial year (Aug 1st – Jul 31st).
  3. Work closely with the Sports Union office and sports clubs to attract new, added value sponsorship deals with suppliers, as well as maintaining close relationships with existing partners.
  4. Support Sports Union staff and volunteers on the Sports Executive with the general planning, organisation and delivery of other activities throughout the academic year.
  5. Attend and contribute to Sports Executive committee and sub-committee meetings throughout the academic year.

Executive Officer - Sports Exec

Leading on the administration and governance of sport to the Executive Committee.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Provide high quality administrative and governance support to the Sports Executive Committee, supporting organisational objective and accurate record keeping of minutes.
  2. Represent sports clubs for all matters relating to official University of Strathclyde Teamwear and Leisurewear contracts, acting as liaison between members and the Sports Executive Committee.
  3. Assist the Sports President in the formulation of operational plans that outline the annual activities of the Sports Union. Contribute to projects to support the achievement of organisation level objectives.
  4. Support the Events Officer with the logistical planning and delivery of Sports Union events, deputising when required.
  5. Support Sports Union staff and other volunteers on the Sports Executive with the general planning, organisation and delivery of key events, such as Sports Ball, Captains Dinner and Elections.
  6. Attend and contribute to Sports Executive committee and sub-committee meetings throughout the academic year.

Finance Officer - Sports Exec

Leading on the financial arrangement of all affiliated sports clubs.

Main Responsibilties

  1. Chair the Sports Union Finance Committee, working with other members to administer committee meetings, funding requests and club budgets.
  2. Oversee the financial arrangements of all affiliated sports clubs by working closely with club treasurers on a 1:1 basis, assisting and troubleshooting where necessary by holding drop-in clinics on a regular basis.
  3. Process funding applications on behalf of sports clubs and communicate outcomes of all related decisions to sports clubs across a variety of digital platforms.
  4. Support Sports Union staff and other volunteers on the Sports Executive with the general planning, organisation and delivery of key events as and when called on.
  5. Attend and contribute to Sports Executive committee and sub-committee meetings throughout the academic year.

Publicity Officer - Sports Exec

Leading on publicity and media of all facets of the Sports Union.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Support the Sports Union staff with the publicity and media of all facets of the Sports Union, through several channels, including social media platforms.
  2. Work with sports clubs, in particular media officers, to improve student sport promotion of any club activity, such as coordinating social media ‘takeovers’.
  3. Contribute to and support the publicity of various events and campaigns throughout the year, such as Welcome Week.
  4. Support Sports Union staff and other volunteers on the Sports Executive with the general planning, organisation and delivery of key events as and when called on.
  5. Attend and contribute to Sports Executive committee and sub-committee meetings throughout the academic year.

Inclusion Officer - Sports Exec

Leading on any new, added value sponsorship deals with suppliers as well as maintaining relationships with existing partners.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Drive forward the Sports Union EDI agenda by undertaking advocacy and representation work.
  2. Liaise with key Sports Union and University representatives with a view to breaking down barriers for all students looking to engage with sport at the University.
  3. Work with sports clubs, sports executive committee, and relevant partners to deliver key EDI events and campaigns, such as LGBTQ+ and Black History Month.
  4. Support Sports Union staff and other volunteers on the Sports Executive with the general planning, organisation and delivery of key events as and when called on.
  5. Attend all Sports Executive Committee meetings throughout the academic year, deputising for the Sports President where required.

Wellbeing Officer - Sports Exec

Leading on all things health and well-being, such as campaigns and projects.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Support the Sports President to drive forward the Sports Union wellbeing agenda by defining and facilitating the role of Wellbeing Officers within member sports clubs.
  2. Work with the Sports President, internal partners and external organisations to arrange relevant wellbeing, welfare and mental health training for the Sports Union membership, and Wellbeing Officers in particular.
  3. Work with sports clubs and relevant partners to support delivery of key wellbeing events and campaigns, such as Wellbeing Week.
  4. Support Sports Union staff and other volunteers on the Sports Executive with the general planning, organisation and delivery of key events as and when called on.
  5. Attend and contribute to all Sports Executive committee and sub-committee meetings throughout the academic year.
