Candidate for the position of NUS Scotland Conference Delegate
Promoting equal opportunity for all Strathclyde students to make their time at university the best they can have
My name is Daniella and I am currently a first-year undergraduate student studying in the faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
I entered university as a mature student and although previously worried, have loved university life so far.
It is said university life is what you make it and while that is partially true, nobody, in my opinion, should ever feel like they cannot have a good university experience because they feel left out for reasons such as age, gender, sexual orientation, country of origin or because of a current situation they are going through whilst also attending university. Nobody should think that other students are having a better time at university and that this is not possible for themselves.
University is not just what you make it, but also the chances, opportunities and support you get given throughout.
While we already have many great events and projects at our university and university union, there is still always more to be done:
Recently the NUS was part of ensuring all college and university students have access to mental health support, supporting colleges and university to tackle gender-based violence, continuing work on making access to higher education for people from deprived areas fair, as well as putting an end to the unfair 100 per cent attendance policy tied to further education support and so much more.
By being a NUS delegate I not only want to be part of and promote this amazing work already done, but I also want to continue to promote Strathclyde University and our needs as students to continue promoting a fair chance for all students to have the best university experience that they can have.
