Undergraduate Faculty Rep Role

Undergraduate Faculty Rep

Faculty Reps represent students’ views and interests at faculty-wide meetings and committees. They support the programme reps in their faculty and act as a link between programme reps, University staff and the Union. They will be engaged and involved in the Union’s education campaigns and events. There is one undergraduate faculty rep role for each of the four faculties.

Term: March to March (exact dates TBC)
Honorarium: £1000 (paid in instalments at end of Semester 1 and Semester 2)
Time Commitment: approx. 5 hours per week during semester


This role will:

  1. Represent on all issues relating to the Education and Employability of undergraduate students in their faculty
  2. Attend Faculty level committees, e.g. Board of Study and Academic Administration Committee
  3. Attend Student Parliament and Education Committee
  4. Liaise with programme representatives within their faculty
  5. Liaise with presidents of liberation groups, halls representatives and other groups as required to gather information about the issues students face
  6. Work with Sabbatical Officers and Student Engagement staff to report issues experienced by students
  7. Deliver programme rep training – attend sparqs “Train the Trainer” course in August


An honorarium will be awarded when:

  1. The rep has attended all applicable Faculty meetings or provided an appropriate reason for non-attendance
  2. Reports are submitted to every Education Committee in the semester
  3. The rep has attended Student Parliament or provided an appropriate reason for non-attendance

  • Strath Union: Full-Time Exec Officers, Non-Exec Officers, Staff including Senior Management, Advice Hub, Central Services, Commercial, Communications and Marketing, Sports Union and Student Engagement teams
  • University: The Associate Principal & Executive Dean of Faculty

  • Strath Union Education Committee

Other Meetings which UG Faculty Reps may be required to attend:

  • University Senate
  • Board of Study
  • Academic Administration Committee
  • Student Community Building Working Group
  • Faculty specific committees such as SBS Academic Quality

These meetings meet on average 2 times a semester. This is list is subject to change, as faculties have different structures. The Union will support the rep and advise on attendance.  

Role Specific Training

  • Extensive training and support will be provided by Strath Union to ensure that you are fully equipped for the role.
  • Additional training and ongoing support are provided throughout the academic year including training workshops, conferences, events and project funds.
